Ansenuza
There are places that seem endless. In Ansenuza, the horizon blends with the water and sky, while thousands of flamingos paint one of South America's largest salt lakes pink. This wetland is a treasure trove of birds and biodiversity: it safeguards memories, trades, and ways of inhabiting the landscape that have existed for generations.
The Landscape
Ansenuza National Park protects more than one million hectares of lagoons, marshes, and grasslands that form one of the most important wetlands on the continent.
Declared a Ramsar site and a National Park in 2022, this natural mosaic is home to more than 60% of Argentina's migratory birds, as well as emblematic species such as the maned wolf, three species of flamingos, and the giant anteater.
The Threat
Habitat degradation, pressure on ecosystems, and the loss of cultural knowledge linked to the wetland threaten the balance of this unique territory.
Our work
We participated in the landmark creation of the National Park, the third in Córdoba. At Fundación Naturaleza Argentina, we strengthen the management of the mosaic of reserves that make up Ansenuza through scientific research, environmental education, and collaboration with local governments and communities. We support the development of the National Park Management Plan, promote new municipal reserves, and work on monitoring key fauna to better understand and protect the ecosystem.
The community
Coastal communities maintain a historical connection with the wetland.
We work alongside schools, local governments, scientists, and families living in the area to strengthen cultural identity and build participatory conservation tools.
- More than 1 million hectares protected
- We support the creation of the legal framework for 8 Provincial Natural Monuments in Córdoba.
- Ongoing environmental education activities.
- Monitoring of flamingos, mammals, and threatened species such as the maned wolf.
