Our Model
We work to protect Argentina’s nature through an integrated approach that connects landscapes, species, communities, and governments to build lasting solutions.
Protected Areas
We promote connected protected areas that integrate diverse uses and knowledge around a shared vision, through the design and consolidation of conservation mosaics. We lead and support participatory processes with communities, governments, and other key stakeholders, promoting institutional agreements, strengthening local and management capacities, and coordinating public policies.
Species Protection
Our approach is based on merging scientific and community knowledge through the development of collaborative research and monitoring programs. We use this information to design effective conservation strategies that promote both species protection and the well-being of the communities that depend on them.
Sustainable Livelihoods
We promote sustainable and regenerative productive, tourism, and educational projects that strengthen the bond between people and nature, integrating conservation and local development. We support value-added processes, economic diversification, and the strengthening of local organizational structures. We promote models based on sustainable use, living cultural identities, and equitable access to opportunities.
Conservation Mosaics: The Advantages of Management Oriented Towards Sustainable Conservation
The "Conservation Mosaics scheme" proposes an environmental protection model that, like an artistic mosaic, unites different elements (protected areas, regulations, local knowledge) to form a diverse yet coherent whole, enhancing the different protection categories as a whole. Inspired by biology, where a mosaic organism brings together different cells that cooperate for the functionality of the whole, the conservation mosaic integrates areas under diverse jurisdictions and property rights into a harmonious system of protection and sustainable use.
Fundación Naturaleza Argentina presents Conservation Mosaics as an innovative way to care for territories in an integrated manner, understanding that ecosystems do not follow administrative boundaries. Faced with institutional and environmental fragmentation, we work by coordinating different jurisdictions, stakeholders, and protection categories within a single territorial strategy. This approach allows us to optimize resources, strengthen collaborative work, and ensure that fundamental ecological processes can be sustained over time, even in the face of pressures from climate change and extractive activities.
A mosaic for each territory: working in five strategic ecoregions, Fundación Naturaleza Argentina develops different models of conservation and integrated management in key ecoregions such as the Dry Chaco, the Espinal, the Monte, the Yungas, the Puna, and the High Andes. These territories are fundamental due to their enormous biodiversity. There, scientific work, community participation, and institutional coordination combine to protect essential ecosystems and strengthen the environmental and social resilience of each region.
How do we do it?
We present our institutional transparency document. A space to resume the debate on protected areas in the context of the current climate and biodiversity crisis. Here, we develop some scientific, legal, and technical foundations for our work with protected areas. We also explain our vision and objectives for these areas, our partnerships, and our working methods.
